A new wind is blowing. The breeze is powered by the cross, the grave and the resurrection story of Jesus. Look a little further back in history and we see that the story takes us all the way back to Egypt.
That’s where God's people cried out for help and the Lord set in motion a plan of deliverance. Each Hebrew family prepared a lamb for dinner, accompanied by wine and flatbread. Then in one night, they walked away from more than 400 years of slavery. Lest they forget His goodness, God reminded His followers to retell this dinner story every year as if they were the ones who had been rescued and freed.
“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord ...” (Exodus 12:14).
The Bible gives us a glimpse of Passover celebrations during the reign of King Hezekiah, King Josiah, Ezekiel and among those who returned from captivity in Babylon (2 Chronicles 30 and 2 Kings 23:21-23; Ezekiel 45:21-24; Ezra 6:19-20). If only they knew that the Passover story got even better with Jesus! When our Messiah hung on the cross on Passover, He brought a new kind of freedom that changed the world forever.
This year, Thursday, April 6th is Passover day (15th of Nissan). This is the day Jesus hung on the cross. Nothing could hold God back from bringing freedom to His people in Egypt; nothing could hold Him back from bringing freedom through Jesus. God still hears the cries of His people. He still answers. A new breeze is blowing from Egypt through Jerusalem into our hearts. Catch hold of the wind and grab the freedom freely available through our Messiah, Jesus. Happy Passover!
