Adar אֲדָר

The Twelfth Biblical Month is all about JOY

2025: February (sunset) - March (sunset)

The Hebrew name Adar (“ah-DAR”) draws a connection to the Hebrew term “adir,” signifying strength and power. In good times, both strength and power are useful, and in dire times both are indispensable.

Adar’s fame goes all the way back to Egypt, to the final month that the Jewish people spent in Egypt before the Exodus to freedom. Symbolically, this month acts as a gateway, leading to the grand celebration of Passover’s miracles.

In a way, Adar epitomizes boundless reasons to rejoice, making it the official month of jubilation. Could your life use strength, power, and double joy? It’s yours this month!

The twelfth month of the year, Adar, is the official “joy month.” It’s said that as soon as Adar begins, joy increases. The cause of joy is the annual festival called Purim, a time of rejoicing, emphasizing the triumph of good over evil. So, get ready! Joy, new beginnings, and unity are headed to you in abundance during this twelfth month!

Purim

Take, for instance, when the evil Persian ruler, Haman, decreed the annihilation of every Jew from Persia to Africa. The turn of events that followed, during Queen Esther’s reign in Babylon, held such significance that it spurred an annual worldwide commemorative event on the 14th of this month (Esther 9:20-22). The celebration is called Purim, from the Aramaic word “pur” or “lot” named after the dice tossed to choose the date.

Remember the story of Ester during this time. When impending doom seems imminent, breakthrough for the nation is coming! This is the time for the Church to fast and pray!
