The Sabbath — God's Design for Rest

The Sabbath is more than a day on the calendar — it’s a rhythm woven into the very fabric of creation.

Sabbath — שַׁבָּת — Shabbat in Hebrew

Feeling Exhausted, Rushed, or Worn Out?

Most of us don’t feel rested—we feel rushed. Our calendars are full, our minds are crowded, and even when we stop moving, we don’t really stop striving.

We rest from work, but rarely rest in something deeper. And over time, that pace costs us—physically, emotionally, spiritually.

The Sabbath speaks directly to that tension.

We understand—and we can help.

At Simka Foundation, we help people reconnect with timeless rhythms like Shabbat—rhythms that shaped the life of Jesus and His first-century followers.

We’re not about legalism—we’re about helping you rediscover rest that heals, restores, and reconnects you to what matters most.

Here’s a Simple Sabbath Rhythm You Can Start This Week:

  • REMEMBER

Pause and recognize that God holds your life and worth.

  • REST

Set aside work and striving, and let your body and mind receive, not produce.

  • RELAX

Enjoy the people and experiences that bring you joy and presence.

Shabbat doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.

God’s design for rest is surprisingly simple. It can be practiced by anyone, anywhere, at any stage of life.

  • What happens if nothing changes?

Ignoring rest slowly shrinks your joy, deepens your stress, and disconnects your heart from God, family, and community.

  • What happens when you embrace Shabbat?

You gain presence instead of pressure, freedom instead of fatigue, and a renewed sense of meaning that carries you through your week.

God’s Gentle Invitation

Sabbath isn’t about rules or restrictions. It’s about trust.

It’s God saying, “You don’t have to hold the world together today. I’ve got it.” It’s a weekly reminder that our value doesn’t come from what we accomplish, but from who we belong to.

And this invitation isn’t new. Sabbath is woven into creation, affirmed by Jesus, and practiced for thousands of years as a life-giving rhythm for God’s people. It has endured because it works—not by making us more productive, but by making us more human.

Imagine this:

• You enter Monday with a calm mind and a peaceful heart.
• Your relationships feel deeper and more meaningful.
• Your spirit feels rooted in something bigger than your to-do list.

That’s the gift of Sabbath rest — not just a day off, but a life that remembers, rests, and delights.

A Gift from the Beginning

What if rest wasn’t a luxury we earn — but a gift built into life from the very beginning?

Jesus said it plainly: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” This means Sabbath is not a burden of rules — it’s a gift of rhythm, reflection, and renewal.

On this day, we are invited to stop striving, to trust that God sustains us even when we rest — and to remember that our worth is not in what we produce but in who we are: beloved and cared for by our Creator.

Guard and Keep

When God created the heavens and earth, He gave us a blueprint for rest. His example came with instructions to guard and keep Shabbat.

Even first-century believers were reminded that Shabbat is the day God made holy.

The Day Called Holy

In Genesis, after six days of creating the universe, God rested on the seventh day.

He called it "Holy" setting it apart from every other day.

A Day Made Just for Us?

A quick look back at Genesis shows that when God created humans, He made them on the sixth day. Then He created the seventh day—Shabbat—and rested (Genesis 2:2-3). The first humans rested with Him. It's almost like He created Shabbat just for them (Mark 2:27).

The Promise of Rest Still Stands

Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.
