Shevat שְׁבָט

The 11th Biblical Month is all about LIFE

2025: January (sunset) - February (sunset)

Shevat (“sheh-VAHT”) is a month rich in symbolism, meaning, and life! This is the start of a new growing season, the day when the sap begins to rise in the fruit trees in Israel.

In modern times, Shevat is marked by eating fruit, particularly from the “Seven Species” which include wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates (Numbers 8:8).

Scripture tells us that Moses began summarizing the Book of Deuteronomy on the first day of this month. Hence Shevat is considered an opportune time to study the Bible and gain revelation.

The New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, Galatians, as well as 1 and 2 Corinthians, Hebrews, and Revelation, all refer back to Deuteronomy. There are only a few books in the New Testament that do not reference or quote Deuteronomy!

The three consonants in the word Shevat שְׁבָט stand as an acrostic for the Hebrew expression, “Shenishma Besurot Tovot” which means, “we should be blessed to share good tidings”.

What an appropriate expression for a month that celebrates the blessings of abundance, new life, and the importance of Scripture!
