At twilight today, Sunday, May 7th, a new day begins, the 30th day of "counting the Omer". Today marks four weeks and two days of counting.
In the first century, Israel was overrun by the Romans. While the Roman government persecuted Jews in varying intensities over the decades, many Greek speakers came to faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In a sense, they joined the big family of Jesus. They too anticipated the family celebration coming up on the 50th day.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for adding many children to your big family. On the thirtieth day of counting the Omer, we bless You. Thank you for continuing to walk by our side through all seven weeks of the countdown to Pentecost! Amen.
