The Feast of Unleavened Bread

The Bible speaks of a weeklong festival each Spring remembering a shocking story of slavery to freedom.

In 2025, The Feast of Unleavened Bread (HaMatza'ot) begins at sundown on Saturday, April 13 and ends April 20 after sunset.

When Jesus broke flatbread at The Last Supper (Passover Dinner), the Feast of Unleavened Bread became part of our cultural inheritance.

"Let us keep the Feast!" -Apostle Paul

Unleavened Bread

In the original Exodus story, God told every Hebrew family to sacrifice a lamb and wipe the blood on their doorpost. Because they were told to eat in haste, they did not have time for the bread to rise.

God said to remember this every year by eating unleavened bread (matza) for a week. It's part of the story that foretells the freedom we have through Jesus.

Clean Your House

Yeast throughout history became synonymous with sin, so in preparation for this Feast, families in the first-century removed all the yeast from their homes.

Paul likely referred to this custom, referencing the Hebrew scriptures, when he compared yeast to sin and said, “Get rid of the old yeast…”

(Leviticus 23:4-8; I Corinthians 5:17)
